Volunteer Opportunities at FYI

The FYI Center appreciates your interest in helping former foster youth transition to a successful adulthood. Below are some areas where we could use your help. We pledge to do everything in our power to make your volunteer experience a productive and rewarding one.

Qualifications for being a FYI Volunteer

Public Relations Research
Conducts research to collect general information, articles and other media hits about foster care and specifically, youth aging out of foster care for use in policy analysis and outreach. Must possess advanced Internet research skills, be available one to two times per week for three to four hours, and agree to a minimum three month commitment.

Special Events
Assists with planning and implementation of special events and fundraisers. Planning sub-committees include live auction, silent auction, sponsorship, invitations, decorations, publicity and logistics. Meetins occur approximately once per month, plus outside activities for each sub-committee. Helps to publicize special events and boost attendance. Provides support for garnering silent auction donations and sponsorships.

Corporate Donations
Collects data on companies and foundations that have donated to other organizations in the area, researches appropriate contact information for potential donors, and compiles donor lists for future outreach. Must possess intermediate computer skills, be available one to two times per week for three to four hours, and agree to a minimum three month commitment.

Private Donations
Identify individuals that may donate to the center, researches appropriate contact information and compiles donor lists for future outreach. Must possess intermediate computer skills, be available one to two times per week for three to four hours, and agree to a minimum three month commitment.

Office Support
Responsibilities include: answering phone, making copies and assembeling information packets, greeting visitors, assisting with projects such as mailings and light clean-up duties at end of shift. Must possess beginning computer skills and good written plus oral communication in addition to availablity one to two times per week for three to four hours, and agree to a minimum three month commitment.

Database Maintenance
Provides support to FYI Center staff in managing and updating database in preparation for reconciliation efforts, mass mailings and other activities. Must possess intermediate computer skills, be available one to two times per week for three to four hours, and agree to a minimum three month commitment.

Qualifications for being a FYI Volunteer
While each volunteer opportunity may presents own qualification requirements, this is a general overview of the qualifications required for all positions.
